Ark: Survival Evolved (stylized as ΛRK) is an action-adventure survival video game developed by Studio Wildcard in collaboration with Instinct Games, Efecto Studios, and Virtual Basement. It was released in August 2017 for PlayStation 4Xbox OneMicrosoft WindowsOS X and Linux; releases for AndroidiOS and Nintendo Switch are planned. In the game, players must survive being stranded on an island filled with roaming dinosaursand other prehistoric animals, natural hazards, and potentially hostile human players.

The game is played from either a third-person or first-person perspective and its open world is navigated on foot or by riding a prehistoric animal. Players can use firearms and improvised weapons to defend against hostile humans and creatures, with the ability to build bases as defense. The game has both single-player and multiplayer options.

Development began in October 2014. The development team conducted research into the physical appearance of the animals, but took creative license for gameplay purposes. A companion app for computers and mobile devicestitled Dododex received an early release in 2015 and was officially released on August 16, 2017.[1][2][3] One of the game modes, Survival of the Fittest, was released as a free standalone game in March 2016 and was officially released on August 26, 2017.[4] Egypt-based developer Instinct Games was hired to facilitate the game's development. Several expansions to the game have also been released as downloadable contentThe CenterPrimitive PlusScorched EarthRagnarok, and Aberration. A spin-off virtual reality game developed and published by Snail Games titled ARK Park was released on March 22, 2018.[5] Another spin-off game developed and published by Snail Games USA titled PixARK was released on March 27, 2018.[6]

Tribes allow ARK players to form a group and work towards a common goal, such as defeating rival Tribes or conquering end-game bosses. Tribes can have multiple admins and unique governance options.

Creatures on the island can be tamed and used for various purposes. Uses for tamed animals include riding, item transportation, storage, hunting, harvesting, resource production, and defending property while you are offline. Items placed in a tamed creature's inventory usually take much longer to spoil than they would otherwise.

A large number of the items in Ark can be crafted in your inventory, especially the lower level Engrams. All you need are the required raw materials and the Engram.

When crafting an item in your inventory you don't need to leave your inventory open after you start crafting. In fact you can move and harvest resources while crafting, though your movement is greatly reduced.

Cooking is the act of creating food using a Campfire.png Campfire, a Cooking Pot.png Cooking Pot, an Industrial Grill.png Industrial Grill, or an Industrial Cooker.png Industrial Cooker.

Cooking meat requires a Campfire.png Campfire or an Industrial Grill.png Industrial Grill, while cooking recipes requires a Cooking Pot.png Cooking Pot or an Industrial Cooker.png Industrial Cooker.

Artifacts are special items in ARK: Survival Evolved that can be found in Caves around the ARK. They can be found in a loot-crate at the end of the cave, and obtaining them can be fairly dangerous. Currently, their only use is to summon the bosses. They can also be placed on Artifact Pedastal.png Artifact Pedastals for decoration purposes.

Currently, 18 Artifacts exist in the game, however only 10 of them can be obtained without using cheats on The Island, 11 on The Center and Ragnarok, 3 on Scorched Earth, and 3 on Aberration.

The Dino Dossiers are a collection of notes on the various different creatures in ARK: Survival Evolved. You can find them scattered around the landscape of The IslandScorched Earth and Aberration as collectables among other Explorer Notes. The dossiers tell you about the behavior and habits of all creatures present in ARK, written by the survivor Helena, who is mostly correct with her observations. Almost every creature can be tamed, but it differs what and how much the certain creature needs to eat in order to be domesticated.
